Wilga2000 Print

Wilga 2000 TF-REDYou don't see one of these every day in Iqaluit.  It is an EADS 'Warszawa - Okecie' S.A. PZL-104MA Wilga 2000.  Quite a powerful, multipurpose aircraft.  Built in Poland by PZL,  they're used for everything from towing gliders, to training, to border patrol.  The Canadian Air Cadet program had purchased one PZL-104MA, and was planning to buy more, but EADS is apparently no longer making it.

TF-RED (good choice of call sign, given the brilliant paint job), is now owned in Iceland.  RED dropped by Iqaluit for a fuel stop on June 12, 2011.  Needless to say, it turned quite a few heads at the fuel pumps.  Specs here. Behind RED you can see the tail top First Air's B767 freighter.

Wilga N909CCAfter seeing TF-RED in June, it was a treat to see another Wilga stopping by in July.  N909CC is a 1985 PZL-104 WILGA 80, featuring the Ivchenko AI-14 9 cylinder rotary engine.  Hadn't seen one of these in a long, long time.  N909CC was up from California.
